Shirley Malcom

Senior Advisor and Director of SEA Change, American Association for the Advancement of Science

Shirley Malcom is Senior Advisor and Director of SEA Change (promoting STEMM equity achievement in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine) at the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In her more-than-40-year tenure at the AAAS, she has worked to improve the quality of, and increase access to, education and careers in STEMM as well as to enhance public science literacy. A trustee of Caltech, regent of Morgan State University, and holder of 17 honorary degrees, Dr. Malcom also serves on the boards of the Heinz Endowments, Public Agenda, National Math-Science Initiative, and Digital Promise Global. In addition, she is a former member of the National Science Board of the National Science Foundation, and President Clinton’s Committee of Advisors on Science and Technology. In 2003, she received the Public Welfare Medal of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the highest award given by the NAS.
