As Associate Vice President and Director of State Governmental Relations at the UC Office of the President (UCOP), Flaherty is responsible for strategic engagement with the Legislature, Administration, Department of Finance, and other state agencies as it relates to support for UC. Immediately before assuming this role, he served as Deputy to the CFO of State Budget Relations at UCOP, advancing the interests of UC in Sacramento. His earlier positions include Director of State Government Relations at UC Berkeley and Associate Director of State and Local Government Relations at UCSF. He also worked for the San Francisco City Attorney and a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Flaherty graduated from the University of Minnesota and earned his J.D. at Golden Gate University in San Francisco.
